A great vacation email auto-response

Admit it, you probably don’t spend more than a few seconds writing your email auto-response message for when you are on vacation. It ranges from dull to very boring, and in the worst cases is a detailed list of people to contact for each specific case and inquiry.

Today I received one that is just the opposite, a great example of using the vacation auto-response to be at once distinctive, interesting and helpful. Here it is:

Subject: Returning on April 5th Re-energized (RE: <subject of email I sent>)

Dear Friend,

I will be away from the office until Tuesday April 5th. I am taking one week to re-energize and enjoy the world.

For any emergencies, please contact <FirstName> <LastName> at <PhoneNumber>, an individual who will definitely provide you with the answers you are searching for. Thanks!

Positive, effective, short and sweet. I really liked it!

Please share your own samples of a good vacation auto-response.

Just thought I would repost this reply from Ryan Tryssenaar on LinkedIn. I love it :)

I received the following auto response from an overworked Sys/Net admin:

    Subject: On Vacation

I will be canoeing from May 15th through May 20th and will not have access to email, pagers, cell phones, satellite phones etc. Unless you understand smoke signals I will have to get back to you when I return.
